Rifle Confiscation in NYC… Today!
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg
Billionaire, anti-gun activist and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg

If our government made firearms 100% illegal tomorrow and aggressively confiscated all known firearms there would still be literally millions of firearms secreted away by Americans – and American criminals – all over the country… enough to last for decades!  The only difference would be that law-abiding citizens would no longer be able to defend themselves from the criminals who would still be armed with firearms!  Not to mention the fact that any of those law-abiding citizens who might have chosen to keep their firearms are now criminals themselves!

We made drugs illegal – how’s that worked out for us?  It’s illegal to cheat on your taxes and heavy penalties including jail time may be imposed, and in today’s digital age it’s not really all that hard to prove – yet people cheat on their taxes all the time.

In all American prisons knives, drugs, alcohol and guns are illegal, yet in all American prisons knives, drugs, alcohol, and yes, even guns are commonly available… behind walls, barbed wire, guard dogs, and under the theoretically constant observation of guards with cameras and metal detectors!  Do you honestly think for a second that you can keep the criminals that walk the streets right alongside each of us, that shop in the same grocery stores we do, that pump their gas right behind us at the pumps – that somehow more laws will keep those criminals from getting guns?

A couple of months ago in November of 2013 New York City began confiscating rifles and shotguns with magazine capacities of more than five rounds.  This is happening in New York City… right now… today.  Notices were sent out on November 18th to 500 residents who had registered their firearms with the government there.

The Left defends this action of course and says of this action “well, this law is 22 years old!” as if that somehow makes this all OK.  In fact the NYC law restricting rifles and shotguns to 5 rounds has been on the books since 1991.  To quote Hillary Clinton, “What difference at this point does it make?

Confiscation is confiscation.

So you’re probably telling yourself, “Well that’s New York City.  That can’t happen where I live.”  I thought that about Colorado until last year when they imposed many new limits on my firearms.

New York City confiscating rifles and shotguns

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) is sending out letters telling gun owners to turn over their rifles and shotguns – or else face the consequences.

New York City’s ban on rifles and shotguns that hold more than five rounds is now being enforced, according to a letter the NYPD is sending out to targeted city gun owners.

“It appears you are in possession of a rifle and/or Shotgun (listed below) that has an ammunition feeding device capable of holding more than five (5) rounds of ammunition. Rifles and shotguns capable of holding more than five (5) rounds of ammunition are unlawful to possess in New York City, as per NYC Administrative Code 10-306 (b).”

“You have the following options,” the letter explains.

“1. Immediately surrender your Rifle and/or Shotgun to your local police precinct, and notify this office of the invoice number. The firearm may be sold or permanently removed from the City of New York thereafter.

2. Permanently remove your Rifle and/or Shotgun from New York City and provide the following.  Disposition Report/Registration Certificate.  Notarized statement of permanent removal.  Utility bill or other proof of residency regarding the address where the firearm will be stored outside the City of New York.

3. You may call to discuss the matter if you believe your firearm is in compliance.”

Departing New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is a major gun-control activist, with his coalition recently sponsoring an ad that depicts an Adam Lanza-type character entering a school full of children.

New York state, meanwhile, passed the NY SAFE Act in 2013 in response to the Sandy Hook shooting. The law, which bans “high-capacity magazines” and puts in place other stringent controls, was signed by governor and 2016 presidential hopeful Andrew Cuomo.

So there you have it.  Many major cities and some States already have very restrictive gun laws.  We can see here that New York City is one of those, and has only just now decided to enforce its local abridgement of American’s 2nd Amendment rights.  This sort of crap will most definitely continue.  Wake up America.
